Terrestrial Isopods from Spanish Amber (Crustacea: Oniscidea): Insights into the Cretaceous Soil Biota

چکیده
Terrestrial isopods (Crustacea: Oniscidea) are a model group for studying the colonization of land. However, their fossil record is remarkably scarce and restricted to amber inclusions, therefore deposits represent valuable windows past diversity morphology. Here we present new collection 11 terrestrial isopod specimens preserved in Albian-aged from Peñacerrada I outcrop, northern Spain, which collectively most thoroughly documented fauna Mesozoic Oniscidea. The three genera species identified belong five major groups Oniscidea: Eoligiiscus tarraconensis, genus (Ligiidae), Autrigoniscus resinicola, (Synocheta: Trichoniscidae), Heraclitus helenae, (Crinocheta: Detonidae?). These taxa significantly expand known Oniscidea demonstrate that considerable cladogenesis had already transpired by Albian. assemblage represents earliest-known diversification Oniscidea, extending direct evidence terrestrialization back late Early Cretaceous. exhibit some characteristics may inform hypotheses relating general patterns evolution. متن کاملHistological studies on the marsupium of two terrestrial isopods (Crustacea, Isopoda, Oniscidea)
The marsupium, a brood pouch in peracarid crustaceans (Crustacea, Malacostraca) has evolved in terrestrial environment for providing nutrition and optimal conditions for embryogenesis. In the present study we give details on the histology and ultrastructure of its constituting elements such as oostegites and cotyledons. Marsupia of two different eco-morphological types of woodlice, namely the n...
متن کاملDetection of Wolbachia (Alphaproteobacteria: rickettsiales) in three species of terrestrial isopods (crustacea: isopoda: oniscidea) in Brazil
Terrestrial isopods are widely infected with Wolbachia. However, little is known about the presence of bacteria in the Neotropical species. The objective of this study was to test the hypothesis of presence of Wolbachia infection in the native species of terrestrial isopods, Atlantoscia floridana and Circoniscus bezzii, and in the introduced species Burmoniscus meeusei.
متن کاملThe diversity of terrestrial isopods in the natural reserve “Saline di Trapani e Paceco” (Crustacea, Isopoda, Oniscidea) in northwestern Sicily
Ecosystems comprising coastal lakes and ponds are important areas for preserving biodiversity. The natural reserve "Saline di Trapani e Paceco" is an interesting natural area in Sicily, formed by the remaining strips of land among salt pans near the coastline. From January 2008 to January 2010, pitfall trapping was conducted in five sampling sites inside the study area. The community of terrest...
